Los Angeles based producer/multi-instrumentalist Tim Anderson started Ima Robot with Alex Ebert for the sole purpose of bringing their adolescent beats and attempts at rapping to the world at large. As the band gained experience and members, they morphed into an incomprehensible mix of electronics, guitar, and attempts at singing. Being in L.A., of course they created a righteous buzz that attracted crack session pros Justin Meldal-Johnsen and Joey Waronker from Beck's touring band on bass and drums. Tours with likeminded bands like Hot Hot Heat kept Anderson and the band in road-dog mode, and they used that toughness to survive the recording of Ima Robot's second album Monument for the Masses. Tim and the boys still make a big racket, and they amplify it all through Crate.
