The Dickies without Stan Lee is inconceivable. For many in America, Lee's buzzsaw guitar is the first dose of punk music to assault their tympanic membrane. As part of the first L.A. punk rock band to score a major label deal, the first to go to Europe, and the first to go insane, Stan had a blank canvas from which he developed his own pure, melodic-punk style, and it has served him well for over twenty years.
A Dickies show is a sight to behold, with Lee getting down the grind with his Crate stack, while frontman Leonard works his props, consisting of inflatable dolls, scuba gear, and a large phallic puppet named Stewart.
Stan Lee has seen and played it all. Like any punk legend, he wants an amp rig that any punter in the audience could go out and buy the next day—he wouldn't be caught dead playing some exotic boutique sell-out at a Dickies show—that's why his backline is all Crate.
