He can't drive 55 and you can't touch his three-lock box, but that's okay with Sammy Hagar, whose voice and guitar have reverberated the interior of many a Camaro.
Hagar first burst on the nation's rock consciousness in Montrose, where his classic track “Bad Motor Scooter” got a generation of toes tapping. Hagar went on to a fruitful solo career as the Red Rocker, singing and playing guitar on such hits as “Heavy Metal”, “Three Lock Box”, and his signature song "I Can't Drive 55.”
Sharing the same Ferrari mechanic as Eddie Van Halen, Hagar got the nod to front the band after David Lee Roth's “retirement.” Though his guitar took a back seat to Eddie's virtuosity, he continued to strap his axe on night after night, augmenting Eddie's noodling with some good ol' fashioned power chords. Four number one albums later, Sammy left Van Halen and put together his own band, The Waboritas.
